Guess what’s coming to New York City this weekend… If you said a festival that caters to the inner independent film maker in all of us, you nailed it!

The Independent film festival comes to NYC to celebrate the true independent film maker; screening their film in the heart of New York City, Times Square. If you’re wondering what types of films will be played, you need not worry because the festival will be offering it all, from documentaries,  to short and long feature-length films, music videos, and animation. Packed with panels, parties and a gathering of young and coming filmmakers the festival is guaranteed to be an event to remember and the place to be from October 18- 20.

History

The Radio City Stage Door Tour gives you a behind the scene look of one of the most iconic theaters in NYC, Radio City Music Hall. Located in the heart of Rockefeller Center, tourists get to explore the magnificent Art-Deco Interiors, learn hidden secrets about the legendary stage as well as the preparation taken to get ready for a concert or Radio City Christmas Spectacular and take a look at a celebrity signed guest book. Last but not least, the tour lets you meet a Rockette and lets you know what it takes to become one of the stars of the Radio City Christmas Spectacular.

The Radio City Stage Door Tour is open 7 days a week, from Sunday through Saturday from 11:00AM – 3:00PM

  • The group was founded in St. Louis, Missouri in 1925
  • The Rockettes use to be known as the Missouri Rockets
  • Every Rockette must be between the height of 5’6” and 5’10 1/2” tall otherwise they are not eligible to audition
  • The cast begins rehearsals about three weeks before their first performance
  • In addition to the cast members of the show the Radio City Music  Hall two camels four sheep and one donkey

History

The Intrepid, Sea, Air and Space Museum is a grand collection of museum ships in NYC, filled with military and maritime history and is located in Pier 86 street. Shortly after a prominent New York real estate developer and philanthropist named Zachary Fisher and a journalist named Michael Stern fought for and succeeded in saving a WWII aircraft carrier named the USS Intrepid from being scrapped in 1978, The Intrepid, Sea, Air and Space Museum was founded in 1982. In addition to holding the Intrepid, the museum also houses the submarine USS Growler, a Concorde SST, A Lockheed A-12 supersonic reconnaissance plane and the most recent awarded gift, The Space Shuttle Enterprise.

Operating Info

The Intrepid is open 7 days a week, from 10 a.m. -5 p.m., and open an extra hour late on Saturdays and Sundays until October 31st.

New Rockettes Musical Coming to Radio City Music Hall

Radio City Music Hall is getting ready to debut a new show in March called “Heart and Lights”. This brand new musical will be starring the Rockettes and will be an ode to the beloved city of New York. This 90 minute new spectacular will bring to life the passion New Yorkers have for their city as you follow two cousins on their journey through uptown and downtown to discover the secrets and of their grandmothers past as well as the city’s past too.

Where is the NYC Halloween Parade?

The biggest Halloween celebration in the world makes its grand return to NYC! After being cancelled last year due to Hurricane Sandy, The Village Halloween Parade continues its tradition since 1973. The parade, which is the only night time parade in NYC, will take place on Thursday October 31, 2013 at 7 p.m. in Greenwich Village.  If you’re looking to come out and participate the procession will begin on Sixth Avenue at Spring Street and will go along Sixth Avenue to Sixteenth Street. The event includes costumed marchers, puppeteer’s bands and many more with 50,000 people in attendance.

Anyone can participate in the parade as long as they arrive at the beginning of the parade between the times of 6:30 to 8 p.m. If you’re looking to find good spots, parade watchers should arrive two hours before the parade begins.
