Celebrating Mardi Gras NYC

This year, Mardi Gras comes to us much later than usual. Normally in February, Mardi Gras 2014 is officially on March 4.

Sure, when you think Mardi Gras, you think New Orleans, but let’s not kid ourselves for one second. This is New York City. There is a party for every holiday in this town, and Fat Tuesday is no exception. Here are the best was to celebrate Mardi Gras in NYC.

Bourbon Street Bar & Grille

This Hell’s Kitchen bar takes its name from the street that makes Mardi Gras in New Orleans famous: Bourbon. Every year Bourbon Street hosts one of the biggest Mardi Gras parties in NYC and this year is no different. There will be beads, face painting, giveaways and food and drink specials all day

Ninth Ward

Another aptly named NYC party location for Mardi Gras, Ninth Ward in the East Village will be celebrating the day with some of the best Cajun food in the city.

This dive bar will bring out the hipster in all of us with some authentic New Orleans Jazz and cheap drinks on Fat Tuesday

Get yourself a hurricane at this New Orleans themed bar. Like 169 Bar, this is a bit divey-er than our other options, but still a great place to celebrate Mardi Gras

Off Broadway Week begins February 17 in NYC

Do you know the difference between a Broadway Show and an Off Broadway Show? I’ll give you a hint: it doesn’t have to do with what street it’s on, or the quality of the show necessarily. Give up? Well, let me tell you.

The Difference between a Broadway Show and an Off Broadway show all comes down to seating capacity. Broadway Theaters are theaters that hold 500 or more seats, Off Broadway theaters are theaters that hold between 100-499 seats. That’s it. So when people tell me they don’t want to see that Off Broadway show because the production value is too low, I laugh at the. They don’t know what they’re missing.

Off Broadway shows are some of the best in NYC, after better than their Broadway counterparts. Shows like Avenue Q can go toe-to-toe with any musical comedy in a Broadway theater, and now you can get 2-for-1 tickets to just about all of them. The Off Broadway Week 2-for-1 deal is on sale now for shows from February 17-March 2. Visit the official website to buy your tickets now, you won’t regret it!
